Athens (Ohio) High School Band Boosters

Updated Wednesday Sept. 1

Sept. 1:
Due to a paperwork snafu, bandie candie will NOT be arriving Thursday Sept. 2.

As soon as we have a new delivery date, we will let you know. It should be within the next week.

I know some of the students were looking forward to selling over the holiday (and OU move in weekend!) - we apologize for the delay.

Aug. 31:
Hello all!

First - thanks so much to all of the parents who were available to help on Friday during the first football game! There
were lots of folks pitching in - and that helps everything go smoothly!

The band played part one and two of "the show" and its really coming together!
*********
This week - practice as normal -Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - until 5:00 pm.
*********
Friday - we travel to Coal Grove to take on Dawson-Bryant. Report time at the high school is 4:15. We will be in full uniform.
Black shoes - black socks, etc. Remember to wear something that can be worn under the uniform - as we'll most likely be
dressing in and around the buses. PLEASE - t-shirts under the uniform - no tank tops.
(FYI - we had many students with black ankle socks....socks need to be higher than that - when they march in ankle socks, we can
see their legs, and that is not good!)

It's a bit less than a two-hour drive from Athens to Coal Grove, so for pick-up on Friday night - I suggest your students call you when we get to Albany
to minimize your waiting at the high school.
********
Students with artistic skills - your examples for a show shirt as well as ideas for finishing out the props are due to Mr. Backes by Thursday
this week.

Finally -

It's time for Bandie Candie! This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. We hope to raise $5,000.00 in two weeks. The sale starts on Thursday, September 2nd, and ends on Friday, September 17th. The top three sellers will receive cash prizes ($150, $125, and $100). These will be awarded on Tuesday, September 21st.

We ask that each student sell at least two boxes of Bandie Candie. Each box contains 50 chocolate bars from The World's Finest Chocolate Company. Each chocolate bar sells for $1.

Once your student has sold all of the bars, they can turn in their money at the end of school each day or at the end of marching band practice to Mrs. Hartwick or Mrs. Starkey. They may then sign out another box. If your student would like to sign out more than one box, they will need to prepay for those additional boxes.

Parents and family members are encouraged to get in on the fun and sell Bandie Candie at their places of business. Parents and family members can also sell Bandie Candie at high school sporting events, including football games. The sale will be going on during move in weekend for OU, so make the most of tons of extra folks in town.

To Summarize: Their student will receive only one box of Bandie Canide at a time, unless they prepay for boxes. Once they turn in their $50, they may sign out additional boxes of Bandie Candie everyday at the end of school or after marching band practice. Fridays are the only day to return unsold Bandie Candie. All proceeds from the Bandie Candie sale must be turned into Mrs. Hartwick or Mrs. Starkey. Students should not turn money for Bandie Candie in to the directors. The Bandie Candie sale will run from September 2nd, through September 17th. Prizes will be awarded on September 21st. Questions - call Maryann Hartwick at 707-7550.

Thanks to everyone for a great start to this band season!
